Committee Chairs
Each committee has a committee chair. Committee chairs must be PTA members. The committee chair coordinates the committee's activities, provides the Board of Directors with a description of the committee's goals for the upcoming school year, updates the Board of Directors on the committee's activities, requests approval from the Board of Directors for committee events and initiatives, requests funds from the Board of Directors for committee use, and recruits new committee members.
Meetings
The PTA holds three types of meetings: Board of Directors meetings, Committee meetings, and Subcommittee meetings.
Board of Directors Meetings
The PTA Board of Directors, which includes elected officers and school representatives, usually meets on the first Monday of every month, except for July and August. At-large PTA members and non-members are welcome to attend these meetings. The purpose of the PTA Board of Directors meetings is to review, assess and plan PTA activities. These meetings cover PTA initiatives at a high level and do not go into the details of specific PTA activities. During these meetings, votes are taken on PTA business.
Committee Meetings
Committee meetings occur as needed and are held separately from the PTA Board of Directors meetings so that committee members can focus on implementing specific initiatives. For example, the Staff Appreciation Committee meets to plan and implement staff appreciation events; the Fundraising Committee meets to plan and implement fundraising events, and so on.
Subcommittee Meetings
The PTA holds Subcommittee meetings as needed. Subcommittees focus on PTA events, tasks or initiatives that require a level of effort that is too large for regular Committee meetings. For example, the Fundraising Committee has a Bingo Subcommittee, which plans and implements Family Bingo Nights.
