Hello Waterville families, educators, and community partners,

We’re thrilled to share the energy and ideas sparked during our recent PTA meeting held at both Albert S. Hall School and George J. Mitchell School.

As we look ahead to our next PTA meeting on October 2nd at 6:30 PM (join us via Google Meet), we’re inviting everyone, to help shape our path forward. Here’s a snapshot of the initiatives we’re exploring:

Teacher Support & Volunteer Engagement

  • We’re creating an online sign-up form to match volunteers with roles based on their skills and interests.
  • A clear outline of expectations for roles like recess and lunch supervision is in the works.
  • We’ll post an onboarding packet for parents interested in substitute teaching on our PTA website.
  • Monthly meeting minutes and surveys will help keep teachers informed and involved.

Teen Volunteers & Creative Fundraising

Community & Parent Engagement

  • We’re planning events like concerts and free food gatherings in accessible areas like the South End.
  • Exploring shuttle services from local businesses to help families attend events.

Strengthening Communication

  • Listening to parents on the challenges they face with responsiveness to teachers and brainstorming new ways to connect.
  • Doing faculty check-ins. A mid-year in-person meeting is on the horizon.
  • We’re considering rotating meeting days to better accommodate teachers.

Funding & Fundraising

  • Teachers can email us directly for classroom supply funding.
  • We’re seeking collaborators for programs like PTA Reflections and food bank initiatives.
  • Fundraising and snack drives will help replenish the GJM food bank.
  • Coffee carts, teacher grants, talent shows, and Bingo nights are all part of our vibrant fundraising mix.
  • We’re exploring weekend events outside Shaw’s or Hannaford to sell baked goods and merchandise.

Communication & Public Relations

  • Faculty and parent surveys are now live on our Contact Page.
  • We’re working with administration to include a PTA section in the school(s) monthly newsletter(s), submission deadlines coming soon!

We’re proud to see new faces joining the conversation through our surveys, what a win for connection! If you have ideas, feedback, or want to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we’re building a PTA that reflects the heart of Waterville!
